Hack The Future 2023
My experience participating in Hack The Future 2023: Code for Nature
Arriving at Hack The Future 2023
The day kicked off with a warm welcome as we received our badges and got the rundown for the day ahead. In the spacious hall of the Flanders Meeting & Convention Center, we had the chance to nibble on some snacks, sip drinks, and mingle with other students gearing up for the challenges ahead.
Before the Challenge
After a hearty welcome and a delicious breakfast, our hosts laid out the plan for the day. The icing on the cake? We got the sweet news that we could freely roam the zoo next door. With the day's agenda set, each team was directed to their challenge room.
The Challenge
Our mission: develop an application where users could log all the animals they spotted during their jungle escapades. The frontend was ready to roll; our task was to craft the backend using Java Spring. Both my teammate, Jochem De Schepper, and I were Java Spring newbies, making this challenge a prime opportunity for us to level up our skills.
The Result
After a few hours of coding, Jochem and I didn't quite finish the entire challenge, but we came pretty close. Following our pitch, it was time to wait as the jury deliberated on the winning team. Although we didn't snag the top prize, we walked away with a wealth of new knowledge.
Conclusion
No regrets about diving into this challenge! I gained invaluable insights into Java Spring, expanding my Java know-how along the way. Here's to more adventures like this in the future!
