Why I reworked my portfolio

Why I Reworked My Portfolio Site as a Software Engineering Student

As a software engineering student, I’ve learned that having a solid portfolio is key to standing out in a competitive field. My old portfolio didn’t quite reflect my skills or the work I’ve done, so I decided to rework it to make a stronger impression. By talking to peers, industry professionals, and consuming online content, I realized that a portfolio should not only showcase your work but also highlight your unique approach and abilities.

Purpose and Vision

The purpose of my updated portfolio is to better represent who I am as a developer and what I can bring to a team. I wanted it to stand out a bit more—showing not just the technical skills I’ve gained but also my journey, my growth, and my potential. The site now reflects my projects and achievements more effectively, while also allowing me to add new content in the future, as I continue to grow as a developer.

Utilizing My Skillset

Leveraging my expertise in C#, .NET, Blazor, and other technologies, I rebuilt my portfolio to ensure it was both functional and user-friendly. I focused on creating a clean design that makes it easy for visitors to access my work, learn about the technologies I’ve used, and see what I’ve accomplished so far. The site is designed to be as efficient and straightforward as possible, giving potential employers or collaborators a quick and clear view of my abilities.

Gaining New Skills

While reworking my portfolio, I initially deployed it to Azure, but the costs quickly became too high. To avoid extra expenses, I switched to a local server on a spare laptop using XAMPP and ngrok to keep the project live. This experience pushed me to find creative and cost-effective hosting solutions while still gaining valuable insights into cloud deployment.

What to Expect

In my portfolio, you can expect to find a selection of projects that reflect the work I’ve done and the skills I’ve developed. Each project is accompanied by links to its source code and/or a live version, allowing visitors to explore my work in more detail. I’ve made sure that everything is easy to access and well-organized, so you can quickly get a sense of my experience and capabilities.

Conclusion

Reworking my portfolio was not just about making it look better—it was about ensuring that it truly represents my growth as a developer and effectively showcases my skills. This updated version reflects my commitment to the craft of software engineering and serves as a better tool to present my work and potential. I’m excited to share it with you and look forward to the opportunities it may bring in my career.
